We’re happy to share that our research paper was accepted to the prestigious CHI 2024 conference. The paper explores the impact of spatial audio on orientation in VR, especially while walking. Bending human perception using audio. The research project is based on a self-crafted and conducted experiment. The result? A statistically significant finding and a ticket to the conference on Hawai’i.

Virtual Reality and Extended Reality are changing the way we experience the digital world. Instead of being limited to flat screens, these technologies let us step inside digital spaces that feel part of our real surroundings.
With spatial computing, digital objects can live alongside us, making the world around us more interactive and layered. This opens up huge possibilities, from students walking through ancient cities during a history lesson to surgeons practising in lifelike virtual operating rooms.
But as these experiences become more immersive, we also need to think carefully about their impact. Blurring the line between what’s real and virtual raises new ethical and psychological questions. As we move forward, it’s important to build VR and XR in ways that enhance life, not escape it, using them to create experiences that are thoughtful, inclusive, and genuinely good for people.
Online identities and avatars, especially in VR, open up exciting new ways for people to express themselves. They let you take on forms that reflect who you are, or who you’d like to be. This freedom can spark creativity, help people see the world from different perspectives, and create deeper, more meaningful connections in virtual spaces.
At the same time, it brings important ethical questions. The same anonymity that gives people confidence can also be misused. There are also real concerns about privacy, since creating and personalising online identities often involves collecting sensitive personal data.
It’s equally important that VR spaces are designed to be inclusive, so everyone can see themselves represented and feel welcome. Both creators and users share the responsibility to make these environments respectful and safe. Setting clear ethical standards and community values helps ensure that online identities remain a tool for connection, not division.
The mix of Virtual Reality and generative AI is opening up a whole new world of possibilities. With AI now able to create detailed images, videos, and even full virtual worlds, the limits of what feels truly immersive are quickly expanding.
Imagine stepping into a virtual space that not only brings history to life but also responds on the fly to how you move and interact, shaping a story that unfolds just for you. Generative AI makes it possible to build these personal and highly dynamic environments, perfect for learning, exploring, or simply having fun. As AI keeps improving, these worlds will feel even more real and alive. You could find yourself walking through ancient cities or playing out stories that shift and evolve based on your choices.
In the end, this mix of AI and VR is about more than technology, it’s about creativity. It hints at a future where digital worlds aren’t just built for us, but with us, blurring the line between being part of an experience and helping create it.
